In addition to our city tours in Essen, we also bring the topics of housing, homelessness, and social exclusion from the streets into the classroom. In our school workshop, students meet people who have personally experienced homelessness and social exclusion and learn about their stories. The workshop combines biographical approaches with educational methods. It deepens understanding of less visible life realities in our society and helps break down prejudices.

We offer this workshop to schools in Essen and the surrounding area.

The workshop lasts approximately 90 minutes and takes place on-site in the classroom.
It is especially designed for students from grade 7 onwards, as well as for young adults.

You can find more information about our educational offerings in Essen in our flyer.

The workshops focus on homelessness, life on the streets, and defensive architecture. They are led by a staff member from querstadtein and include audio recordings from people with lived experience, offering personal insights into questions such as:

How did you become homeless?

What do you expect from society — and from young people?

Together with the students, the workshops explore background information, discuss current statistics, and provide space for exchange and discussion.
