When Salome started her new life in Berlin, she didn’t expect to find something like a Persian garden in the centre of Neukölln. Over the years, she discovered more and more parallels between Neukölln and her old homeland Iran — from the climate crisis to the effects of capitalist structures.
On her tour, Salome combines her personal experiences with the dynamic neighbourhood of Neukölln: she takes participants on a journey to her grandparents’ oases in the Iranian desert and introduces them to traditional Iranian water management, which has preserved life in arid landscapes for thousands of years. She draws a link to the challenges of today, where droughts and desertification are forcing people to leave their homes. On a walk through Neukölln, she also shows how global problems can be felt here too and introduces initiatives that promote solidarity and sustainability.
Salome’s tour connects continents and stories. She invites us to take a holistic view of the climate crisis — not just as an environmental problem, but also as a social challenge — and to develop a shared vision for a sustainable future.
