Many people believe that homelessness is easily visible. But in everyday city life, and even in our own neighborhoods, we often overlook it — along with the alarming extent of homelessness among children and young people.

On the city tour “Hidden in Plain Sight – Young and Homeless in Essen,” Julia shows how diverse the realities of housing insecurity and homelessness in Essen can be. She guides participants through the city center and shares different perspectives on the topic, including personal experiences from her own time living on the streets:
What does daily life look like without a permanent home? What specific challenges do girls and women face when they become homeless? And what role do friendships play?

Julia also talks about support services available in Essen, how long the path out of homelessness can be, and what each of us can do to help.
