Growing up in Wedding involves many contrasts. Tariq saw this ambivalence early on. He himself grew up in precarious circumstances and felt that there wasn’t much separating him from the homeless people on the street. Amid the Leo district, where the open drug scene is now firmly entrenched, vacant buildings, and gentrification that makes daily life increasingly difficult for the migrant-dominated working-class community here, Tariq quickly develops a sense of the contradictory world in which we live.
On his tour, Tariq shares his own story of growing up in a difficult family home, his struggles with the job center, and his desire for a self-determined life. He takes us through his experience of suddenly becoming homeless and navigating the social services system, while also pointing out places where the housing crisis is particularly evident.
