Berlin-Mitte

The tour starts at Gendarmenmarkt and ends at Monbijoubrücke, near to the station Oranienburger Straße (S1, S2, S25, S26, M1, M5).

The last war in Iraq ended 15 years ago. Nevertheless, the country does not settle down: Islamic extremists try to control parts of the country, the tensions between Sunnis and Shiites lead to violence. In this situation, Ahmed Shihab had to flee in 2015 and has lived in Berlin ever since.

His tour leads to the magnificent buildings of the city and into the centre of power: from the Gendarmenmarkt via the Reichstag to the Pergamonmuseum. However, his stories are about far more than shiny facades: Ahmed explains what these places have to do with global power relations and his own migration history.
